Southwest Liturgical Conference

Amarillo—Registration continue for the 53rd annual Southwest Liturgical Conference Study Week, set for Wednesday, Jan. 21 through Saturday, Jan. 24 at the Amarillo Civic Center.

The Diocese of Amarillo is hosting the annual Study Week for the first time since 1976. The theme of the Study Week is Go and Proclaim: Alive in Christ/Ve y Proclama: Vive en Cristo.

Cost of the four-day event is $150 per person. Single day registration is $65 per person.
The Study Week will feature major addresses from five speakers. They include:
• School Sister of Notre Dame Sister Addie Lorraine Walker of San Antonio, who will deliver the keynote address during the opening evening of the event on Jan. 21 at 7:00pm;
• Bishop Emeritus Ricardo Ramirez of Las Cruces, who will address attendees the morning of Jan. 22 at 9:30;
• Missionary Servant of the Most Holy Trinity Brother Loughlan Sofield of Washington, D.C., who is scheduled to speak on the morning of Jan. 23 at 9:30;
• Bishop Patrick J. Zurek of Amarillo, who will make his presentation the afternoon of Jan. 23 at 2:30 at St. Mary’s Cathedral; and,
• Paulist Father John Hurley of San Francisco, who will speak on the morning of Jan. 24 at 9:30.

Study Week participants will have their choice of 57 different breakout sessions, that will begin on Thursday, Jan. 22 at 1:45pm. The breakout sessions will feature a number of national and local speakers, including Dominican Sister Lois Paha, School Sister of Notre Dame Sister Doris Tucek, Father Stephen Bird, Father Jim Schmitmeyer and Davlyn Duesterhaus.

Other speakers include School Sister of St. Francis Sister Mary Ana Steele, Father Scott L. Raef, Father Robert A. Busch, Father Francisco Perez, JCL, Father Richard Zanetti, JCL, Father Gabriel Garcia, OFM, Julie Pierce, Eileen Dolan and Deacon Blaine Westlake. Four workshops will be offered during a Spanish breakout session on Saturday, Jan. 24.

Other activities include tours of St. Mary’s Church, Umbarger and the Cross of Our Lord Jesus Christ in Groom on Wednesday, Jan. 21; a Taste of Amarillo, also on Jan. 21; a banquet dinner on Friday, Jan. 23; and a Music Showcase on Saturday, Jan. 24. There will also be opportunities to attend daily Mass on Jan. 22 at 11:00am, Jan. 23 at 3:30pm at St. Mary’s Cathedral and Jan. 24 at 5:00pm.
