Knights are Catholic men, 18 years of age and older, committed to making their community a better place while supporting their Church. Being a Knight is more than camaraderie; it is being involved with your community; supporting your local Catholic Church while enhancing your own faith; it is about protecting and enhancing your family life.
Membership does not obligate one to devote any time at all. On the contrary, Knights are encouraged to be as active as they want, whether that is no time at all or many hours per week.
Faith, Family, and Fraternity make up the foundation of the Knights of Columbus. Amarillo Council 1450, one of Texas's oldest councils, celebrated its One-Hundredth Anniversary in 2010. It is a very active part of the parish life here at St. Mary’s Cathedral Parish. These dedicated men assist those in crisis, encourage our youth, support the Scouts, tend to many different needs of our school, and participate in many other parishes, school, and community projects. In addition, they annually participate in the national movement to Keep Christ in Christmas.

What does it mean to be a Catholic man? How does a Catholic man love? Why is fatherhood, fully understood, so crucial for every man? We live in a time of crisis for religious faith and family life that must be met by men with a heartfelt embrace of masculine virtue. To outline the challenges we face and devise a plan of battle, Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted has written the groundbreaking document, Into the Breach. In his Apostolic Exhortation, Bishop Olmsted outlines the challenges faced by men of faith in the world today. Into the Breach is a call to battle for Catholic men which urges them to wholeheartedly embrace masculine virtues in a world at crisis.
The Knights of Columbus are pleased to partner with Bishop Olmsted in making this document more widely available and to provide a study guide on the important issues he raises. By reading and discussing Bishop Olmsted's inspirational words and the accompanying study guide with like-minded men of faith, the men of our parish will prayerfully examine the enormous breach in the battle line that lies before them. In doing so, they will begin to devise a personal plan of spiritual battle.
